Hi, it’s Monty the Cocker Spaniel again, and I’m speaking on behalf of us three dogs here in The Dog House. Sian has put a fence up around our garden and a gate and we can’t get out. Can someone please come and save us?
The fence is 200 metres long and our garden is really big. But we had 60 acres to run in before. We go for two long walks a day through the fields with Sian too. But then we’re fenced in.
Max & I always went off for a run through the fields and forests on our own as well as Sian’s long walks. We’d be gone for hours and hours and goodness knows where we went as we’d catch the scent of a fox or rabbit and be gone for ages following it. We’d get lost a few times but don’t tell Sian that as I’ve heard her mention hunter traps in the forest whatever they are. We always made it home in the end but I think she was worried as we’d been gone so long. Now we can’t get out for our own walks because of the fence.
We can’t chase the cars that come down the yard anymore and there’s no chance of Morgan being run over again. We would get really close to the cars and trucks, especially Morgan as she always tried to bite the front bumper. Max & I weren’t always quick enough so we just tried to bite the wheels. Now we see the cars come down but we can’t get out to chase them anymore because of the fence.
After Morgan was run over she had to have a cast on her broken leg and go to the vets in Cork every week even though she hates being in the car. Morgan had to be kept inside the house most of the time and only allowed out on the lead to go to the loo in the garden. The accident was nine months ago and she still limps after she’d been for a long run through the fields if she managed to escape with us. Sian was really not happy when that happened. We can’t tempt Morgan out for our long walks now because there’s a fence.
We run around the garden chasing each other and make Sian laugh as we play tag and run in figures of 8 around the bushes and the swing. We get worn out running around and playing in the garden. Too worn out to go any further but the fence is there anyway.
The dog flap is open again now as Morgan can go out, not chasing cars or escaping for a long run with us. So we can all come and go as we please again, in and out of the house. And the house is much warmer as Sian doesn’t need to leave a window open for the cats now they can use the dog flap again. Although they call it a cat flap! Sian couldn’t have done this without the fence.
Sometimes Sian shouts out to us to come in and have a treat or our dinner. Now we’re just in the garden we are there in seconds instead of the half hour it took us to come across the fields. That’s because the fence is there.
When our dog friends come to stay they can all run freely with us in the garden now so Sian won’t worry about them getting lost with us. All because of that fence.
And guess who the fence doesn’t affect……those bloody cats!!
